The Object as Mirror
The goal of this group project was to design a poster series for a local event in St. Louis. Any visuals created on the poster were to be crowd-sourced. The black and white poster would provide all the information advertising a local event and the instructions for a crowd to create the visuals for the poster.
My group chose the local event The Object as Mirror. For our concept, we really latched on to the idea of reflection. Using this concept, we created a 4-quadrant poster. We then asked members of the community to go up to the poster and read the instructions. The participant would draw whatever they wanted in quadrant 1 and reflect that drawing as they moved between quadrants. Once the poster was interacted with, the quadrants would be shuffled according to set instructions. This shuffling fragmented the large text that was initially shown on the poster. The new placements of each quadrant made the crowd-sourced drawn aspects look more engaging. It also made the viewer have to really look hard to see how the crowd-sourced drawn aspects connected.
